Sally has published four novels and one non-fiction book. Her first two novels – published as Sam O’Reilly – The Best Possible Taste and You Spin Me Round take a satirical look at friendship, rivalry and romance and are set in the 2000s and the 1980s. Her third novel Dark Aemilia is a historical ‘what if’ story about the real life character Aemilia Lanyer, who may have been Shakespeare’s Dark Lady and was one of the first woman to be published professionally in England.
Her latest novel Hagtale: A Macbeth Origin Story was published in November 2025 and explores the Shakespeare play from the perspective of the witches, suggesting that the witches are the custodians of nature who are scheming against the destructive, violent thanes, in particular ambitious Lord Macbeth.
How To Be A Writer offers a route-map for writers and would-be writers about developing and sustaining a writing career, with advice about negotiating the challenges and setbacks, as well as enjoying the good moments when they come.
